Sandra Ryeom, PhD

Dr. Ryeom studies gastric cancer’s tumor microenvironment, organ-specific vasculature, and the underlying pathways driving metastases. She and her team generated one of the first mouse models of gastric cancer that closely recapitulates the pathology of diffuse and intestinal subtypes that rapidly metastasize to the lymph nodes, lung and liver, as observed in patients. Through the use of genetically engineered mouse models and coupling them with patient samples and organoids, she aims to identify biomarkers for the early detection of gastric cancers and new therapeutic targets for patients with advanced gastroesophageal cancer.
